No click track, one take genius, Jake Bugg.
I was flipping through artists from last years iTunes Festival in the UK and I stopped on this kid.
He was young, arrogant or confident take your pick and genius. Jake Bugg is one of the youngest artists to be No. 1 on the UK charts. And he’s about to do it again with his follow up album.
Think about this for a minute. He plays to no click track in the studio. He doesn’t believe in retakes unless it’s necessary to the message in the music like the track Broken from his sophomore album. For the most part it’s an album of raw energy and one take brilliance.
What I love the most about Jake is simply that it is so simple. He commands his performance with an acoustic guitar and raw sound. Not a lot of extra production and processing, no fake beats, no auto tune. It’s no wonder that so many people are drawn to something “real”.
He won’t even let the label place him with a songwriter and publicly knocked One Direction for it.
Do yourself a favor and take a break from the over produced facade that is the music industry and listen to Jake before he is destroyed by what he loves so much.
